Cineclub Mabuse

2026-04-29

Your servant here again!
Today I will talk about something special that I recently discover: Cineclub Mabuse.
Cineclub Mabuse is a proyect by the hand of the great Uriel Barros a cinephile, bizarre and overall a very kind person that share clasic movies in all the formats.
Nowadays, classic cinema in film format isn’t very popular, at least in Argentina..
So the few people who attend the screenings are the lucky ones, as they get to learn interesting facts and curiosities, history and some technical explanations about the movie that they will watch, and after that when the lights switch on and the movie is over all the staff including Uriel stare in the area to talk if you have some question.
Post image I have to admit that I arrive late, and if you don’t know: some the movies in film format have expiration date, so I would’t like to know how many movies I miss it.
For people that lives in english language country, I would like you to know that be a movie collector is harder in some spanish language country because you have to catch not also de original movie, but even the official dubbed movie. And added to that some products never arrive in some countries because didn’t have this official dubb. So because of that Cineclub Mabuse and other people that collets movies (that I would love to know) are so important to preserve the enjoyment of seeing a classic movie.
Cineclub Mabuse have a large story in it’s back, I don’t fell that I would explain it because it’s roots “Mondo Macabro” are older than me. This words are only to express that I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to live another time in the 90’s and even try how was live even before.

I’d like to share with you, dear reader, the Instagram account of Mondo Macabro/Cineclub Mabuse: @mondo_macabro

Truth or Scare?

2026-04-07

Tell me your age without telling me your age…
Haha! Truth or Scare, what a GREAT show, full of folklore, history, and mystery.
Discovery Kids used to be a serious channel back in the ’90s. It offered a wide variety of educational programs where you could learn about physics, history, biology, folklore, literature, art and even catechism if you wanted. But when the 2000s arrived, the channel began shifting toward a younger audience, and its essence was never quite the same. What a pity.
Post image
But what about Truth or Scare? Well, it was one of the last shows that still encouraged something more thoughtful and meaningful. The host, Michelle Trachtenberg †, appeared in a library setting. Each episode would begin the same way: a monologue introducing the topic, followed by clips and images related to the phenomenon being explored. With episodes lasting around 20–30 minutes, 22 episodes in total, and only one season, the series felt more like a documentary that aimed to teach rather than simply scare.
Post image
I remember this series fondly because it was one of my first experiences with horror. Even now, I have vivid flashes of waking up in the middle of a cold night, the TV still on, showing an image of a haunted castle while Michelle Trachtenberg narrated eerie ghost stories about it…

Let's talk about -The House-

2026-03-11

Hey, hey, hey! It’s been a long time, hasn’t it?
In my defense, I have to admit that I’ve been working very hard on a new project for this page… the “games section” It will open alongside an original game! designed, written, and programmed by my hand.
I have to admit that even a short game takes A LOT of hours to make. I’ve never made one before, so this project has opened a whole new world in front of my eyes.
But enough about me, let’s talk about the Flash game “The House” by Sinthai Studio. Yes! My game will be inspired by that great point-and-click horror classic.

Post image
If you navigated the waves of the 2005 internet, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about: black-and-white scenes, a lot of unsettling noises, a chilling five-note melody, and final jumpscares that crown the whole experience. With three games under its belt, “The House” became one of the most iconic horror Flash games of the 2005 internet era. I remember the mix of fear and curiosity when I played this game as a kid on websites like “Pasarmiedo.com” or “Escalofrios.com”.

Now, as an adult, I’m feeding that nostalgic horror child inside me by creating nightmares as a love letter to the studio that gave me one of the best scares of my life. Take a look at the location where you’ll explore the horror in my new game: Post image
I’ll post the release date in the “Important News” section. It will be free, and you’ll be able to play it directly in your web browser.

William Castle: The Marketing Genius

2026-02-18

This incredible guy is proof that good marketing can make a movie unforgettable.
From his opening monologues to offering a $1,000 life insurance policy in case you died of fright while watching the film, those were the kind of brilliant ideas William Castle came up with.
Sure, it’s true that his movies weren’t masterpieces in terms of production value. But who cares? B-movies are simply great. Just take a look at 13 Ghosts: Post image A ghost lion with his headless trainer? YES! Why not? How many movies have you seen with ghost animals?. And let me remind you: this film featured 3D sequences that activated precisely when the actors put on their “ghost viewer” glasses… the same glasses handed to the audience before the show began.

Still not impressed? Then how about being plunged into darkness in the middle of the movie while Vincent Price asks you to scream? All while your seat starts vibrating during The Tingler. Haha! 4D cinema in 1959. The man was ahead of his time. Post image At this point, I’m convinced you want to experience what 1950s audiences felt. But I saved one last story about Castle’s marketing genius because I have unconditional love for this final film: House on Haunted Hill. Post image Yes, I adore Vincent Price and this was the first film of his vast career that I ever saw. It’s a classic, so I don’t need to go into the plot.
If you haven’t seen it yet RUN! And don’t you dare die before watching it!
Picture this: a packed theater watching a brand-new horror film when suddenly a screaming skeleton flies over the audience. Amazing, right? I can just imagine the poor janitor sweeping up all the popcorn afterward.

Maybe they were just gimmicks to attract crowds. But compare that to today’s flat, formulaic horror films. We have endless resources to elevate the experience a thousand percent, yet year after year we get remakes or overly preachy stories.

Please, marketing teams if you’re reading this, take notes:
We need MORE of William Castle’s madness.

The lost siblings of "Goosebumps"

2026-01-28

As a ’90s kid, I just had to write about Goosebumps, the famous horror series that traumatized us all when we were young. But did you know that Goosebumps wasn’t alone? There were A LOT of TV shows and book series exploring horror in a very similar style. You’ll have to forgive me, but in my country there was barely any trace of these products during the ’90s. Post image Luckily, the glorious (and sometimes infamous) Internet has now thrown all this information right in our faces, giving us access to things our parents never could. So here it is: a list of the long-lost siblings of “Goosebumps”!

- Bone Chillers (TV series and books)
- Spinetinglers (books)
- Shivers (TV series and books)
- Graveyard School (books)
- Strange Days at Blake Holsey High (TV series)
- So Weird (TV series and books)
- Are You Afraid of the Dark? (TV series and books)
- Spooksville (TV series and books)
- Point Horror (books)
- Eerie, Indiana (TV series and books)
- Deadtime Stories (TV series and books)

Well, it’s time to feed your inner ’90s kid monster! I hope you enjoy this mini list. And of course, it’s obvious that not all of this came from R.L. Stine’s hand, so someday I’ll gather all the information about the life, work, series, and books of the god we all know as R.L. Stine.

A Nostalgia Rush

2026-01-25

Hey you! YES, YOU! Do you want to be rich? Do you want light work and big money?
Well, I have a proposition for you! Take this kiosk, these lemons, and a couple of glasses. And you know the saying: “If life gives you lemons… make lemonade and make millions!”

Post image Ha ha! That was the INTRO!
I remember being a little kid, playing this simple video game on my little “computer corner”, and somehow… it felt like pure gold.
The game doesn’t have many interactions, you only control prices, supplies, and upgrades. But the pixelated graphics and the changing weather give it a special touch.
This homesick 2002 game will get a full review, I promise. For now, I just wanted to pull it out of the dusty drawer of my mind and gift you this little nostalgia rush

Let's talk about

2026-01-23

Hey hey hey! I’ll open this section by talking about what I expect from “23 Years Later: The Bone Temple”.
This saga has been weird from the very beginning: directors filming the movie with cellphones? Characters constantly betraying each other? This is definitely not the Hollywood we’re used to — and sometimes, that’s GREAT. I personally hate Hollywood standards, because they cut out all the good ideas directors have and turn them into flat, soulless movies.
Now, with “23 Years Later”, things change and it really sets the saga apart from its prequels. It leaves those infected standards behind and goes full savage — island cannibals, raw violence — and at times it turns into something simply grotesque.
So… what do I expect from this movie? First of all, I want to know EVERYTHING about “The Jimmies” and Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal. They’re mysterious, their behavior is unusual, and there’s clearly more going on there.
Post image I just hope they don’t mess up the character.
As for the rest… honestly, I just want more of the same shit!

2026-01-25 Update (HAVE SPOILERS)

HOLY SHIT! That was absolutely mind-blowing! The entire movie revolves around The Jimmies, and OH GOD! Dr. Kelson has an insane scene with Iron Maiden’s “The Number of the Beast” blasting in the background. I won’t give you a full review just yet, you’ll have to wait for it in the “Reviews” section.
But trust me, folks, you have to watch this movie. It’s even better than the prequel!
